Ratto Group sells operations to Recology
The group’s largest contract is worth $27 million and covers curbside collections for 55,000 homes and businesses in Santa Rosa, California. January 30, 2017
The Ratto Group, Santa Rosa, California, is selling all of its North Bay Corp. operations to San Francisco-based Recology, a report by the Argus-Courier says. The multimillion dollar deal includes waste and recycling services in eight of Sonoma County’s nine cities and parts of north Martin County.
The deal also includes Ratto’s Santa Rosa recycling facilities, trucks and 440 employees, the report says. The deal came after the group faced $14 million in fines from Santa Rosa for alleged violations of its contract and permit violations at its recycling facility on Standish Avenue.
According to the report, the decision was also made after the sons of James Ratto, owner of the Ratto Group who is in declining health, revealed they weren’t interested in furthering their father’s operation, according to the report.
The group’s largest contract is worth $27 million annually and covers curbside collections for 55,000 homes and business throughout Santa Rosa, the report says. It will expire at the end of this year.
According to the report, terms of the deal were not disclosed and it is unclear if any immediate effects on customer rates would take place. One of the two Standish Avenue facilities has been shut down for renovations since November, and Recology plans to use both facilities to process recycling.
The Ratto Group also has street sweeping contracts and runs five transfer stations throughout the county, including the site at the county’s central landfill, the report says.
The agreement has been in the works for about a month, the report says. The sale of the company is not determined on Recology winning Santa Rosa’s contract.
According to the report, the city will decide on the contract by June.
Novato, West Marin garbage hauler franchises sold By Adrian Rodriguez, Marin Independent Journal
Marin waste management officials expect the sale of a major North Bay garbage hauler to have little effect on services in Novato and West Marin where the company holds franchises.
Late last month, the Santa Rosa-based Ratto Group agreed to sell off its waste and recycling operations to Recology, a San Francisco company. Ratto Group handles garbage and recycling services for eight of Sonoma County’s nine cities as well as services in Novato and West Marin. “We don’t expect a lot of impact in the near term, or the long term,” said Sandeep Karkal, general manager and chief engineer at Novato Sanitary District, which is the agency that oversees Novato Disposal Service, a Ratto Group franchise.

Maureen M.12/2/2016 I have been calling for 10 weeks to get my recycle bin replaced. The excuse is that the
manufacturer has run out of materials ! I have been promised by staff and supervisors that the can will be delivered week after we
ek. How does this company operate?I have talked with neighbors who are going through the same.

Mark V. Kenwood, CA11/7/2016 My sister has been calling on behalf of my disabled mother for five weeks now to get cans delivered to her house. These people keep saying they have delivered the trash cans, or they are gonna send out some manager type to check it out to see what's going on. Five weeks now they have been saying they have delivered the cans and five weeks now trash has been piling up at my mothers house. Either they are the dumbest people in the world or they are not delivering cans on purpose... either way this sucks

L S. 1/26/2017 Like any Monopoly situation. When you have no other option but to use a company , because no other competition exists. The company treats it's customers like trash. This company treats it's customers like the garbage it picks up. ===============================
MSaint Rosa12/17/2016 For a residential "service" company they sure lack service. There website does not even list the annual large bin that we all pay for as a residential service. Despite this being included in what we all pay for. They appear to purposefully be vague about it and they certainly do not advertise or make it clear that it is included in your annual service. The only mention of it is when they list what it cost after the first year, or if you use more then one a year. And they do not even mention it as an included bin size under their list of bin sizes at all. Further, if you have the stomach to call them be sure to block out about an hour of time to sit on hold and navigate their system. I can't want for their contract to expire.
When will the Novato Sanitation District Board hold public hearings on the transfer of the current Franchise from Novato Disposal to Recology?

Ratto Rising
Local workers in waste-management industry score a victory
BY MARTIN BENNET
there was an
important victory for the labor movement in Sonoma County.
On May 19, drivers, mechanics, recycling and clerical workers employed by North Bay Corporation (a
subsidiary of the Ratto Group) voted to join Teamsters Local 665 by a 271- 31margin in a National
Labor Relations Board election.
North Bay Corporation had won waste-management contracts for the county and most cities by
delivering rock-bottom rates. However,an auditor for the cityof Santa Rosa in 2016 found that the
company was out of co mp liance with te rms of the franchise
agreement, including failure to rebuild an aging fleet of polluting and unsafe garbage trucks,
inabilityto meet minimal rates of recycling and diversion from landfills, poor customer service and
operating
a substandard recycling facility. The union victory will lead to a substantial wage boost to
family-supporting levels, job security, ret iremen t benefits and paid sick leave and vacation.
The recycling industry is one of the nation's most dangerous, with the fifth highest fatality and
injury rates. Experi ence in other jurisdictions suggests that unionization will result in a
healthier and safer workplace.
North Bay Corporation recently entered into negotiations that will lead to the sale of the comp any
to Recology, a San Francisco based furnwith a long history of maintaining the highest labor,
environmental and customer-service stan dards. Recology has agreed to retain the workforce,
recognize the union and begin contract bargaining after the sale is completed.
North Bay Jobs with Justice helped to build a community-labor support network for the organizing
campaign. We look forward to partnering with the union and Recology to raise job quality and
environmental standards in the county waste-management sector.
On June 29,-North Bay Jobswith J ustice holds a public forum on these issues called "Good Jobs and
